Who is RuthSedarWrites?

Being a freelance writer is a fascinating job. Brief us and let us fly. We love taking words, concepts, loose threads, interconnected ideas and weaving them together with words. We’re infinitely flexible, and if we’ve done our jobs correctly, you won’t see a trace of us in your copy. Unless that’s what you want, so we’ll make sure we’re turned up to 11. We’re the verb-slinging guns for hire who can take the driest topic and make it exciting, entertaining and digestible. And me? I’m equal parts honest, smart, reliable, inspirational, dependable and witty.

But who am I to you? The answer usually depends on who a client needs me to be. On any given day, my job title could be:

  • Trusted collaborator

  • Inspiration seeker

  • Big-picture identifier

  • Fine detail crafter

My clients include SMEs, B2B companies, writing agencies and individuals with a story to tell. The type of work I love best is getting complex messages and topics distilled into something engaging, exciting and best of all: simpler.

Of course, there is always a risk that we might not be a great match. But let’s stay positive, shall we?

Writing makes ideas appear in words. And that’s not an easy feat when we don’t usually think in language. We think in concepts and imagery, and we daydream about how things might sound if we did write them down.

That’s why I’m a…

Trusted collaborator

My clients give me the free rein to take their brand voice and make it sing. Founders and CEOs can discover they are too close to their brand or product to feel comfortable talking about it in plain English. So when I turn up, ask dozens of questions and then go and explore how the brand could sound, clients like the fact that they can leave me to it. And I love the feeling of being trusted. Whether they need regular blog posts or newsletters, I can take their brand voice and speak it fluently.

Inspiration seeker

Just like being too close to a brand, founders and CEOs — or anyone with a message — can find themselves leaning on the same styles or techniques. That’s not a criticism: but an observation. And as an outsider, I can be the cheerleader they need to explore new avenues and find that special something that makes their brand stand out. Let’s shake things up with some new ideas and inventive ways to approach familiar topics.

Big-picture identifier

Where your brand or company sits can be a tricky question to answer. Niches are hard to define and everyone has something unique to sell or deliver. If a brand or company needs help establishing how it sounds, I can create an easy-to-use tone of voice that helps them stand out. By offering founders and CEOs the chance to zoom out and find themselves in the bigger picture, I help them figure out where they fit, and what they want to do with that knowledge. Which leads me to my final role…

Fine detail crafter

You know those fiddly little things you can explain out loud but find hard to capture on a page? Those are some of my favourite things. I love talking to people to discover the root of fascinating stories and ideas. Through interviews and casual conversations, I can get the nuggets of information out of just about anyone. You can thank my training in journalism and years in customer service for those particular skills. I love nothing more than taking those tiny details in the way you speak or the words you use to describe things and write them powerfully.

And now it’s over to you. Who do you need me to be? Get in touch to find out more.
