My projects

I’ve been writing fiction since, well, forever. Whether it’s a short story, a collection or a fully-fledged novel, I can promise I’ve got something in the works.

I find inspiration in nature, from ghost stories and abandoned places, from dreams, and from wild landscapes. I lived in Cornwall for a time and the scenery, people and mythology have all hugely influenced my stories.

My current work in progress is my first full-length novel called The Offering. Without giving too much away, it’s about a ghost who needs help from the living to take her revenge against an unstoppable evil.

The Offering has witchcraft, hidden woodlands, secrets, lies, and lots of apples. Coming in 2023.

Short story extract

I’ve contributed work to performance groups and had work included on podcasts and read at live events. The following is an extract from a short story called Home Truths, written for and performed by White Rabbit.

They're not stupid, demons. They know if you're only pretending to be asleep. They don't mind though; there's really no rush. They can wait all night.

Mine waits for me until I enter a fuzzy and dreamless sleep. It starts quietly, with rustling sounds. Small, boring noises I never notice in the day are suddenly amplified. The clock ticks too loudly, too slowly. My eyes snap open in the dark, but I can't see anything. I can’t move, can’t speak. The rustling becomes a scraping, then a clawing which I can feel through the bed slats. Long, sharp needle nails push at the underside of my mattress and nudge the fabric against my thigh, my side, my ankle.

My arms are flat against my body and my legs stick out in front, frozen, like a cadaver on a stretcher. I'm staring at the ceiling, not really seeing anything but I'm finally able to blink. I am completely still, hypnotised, paralysed and my breath hitches when I hear a dull thud of feet on the carpet.
