“If it gets a bit weird, that's more than welcome. Left-field ideas, theories and techniques - if you've got 'em, we want to hear them.”

The challenge

I was approached by Leif Kendall, Director of ProCopywriters, to help revamp the weekly email newsletter. It reaches over 950 copywriters around the world and it’s a showcase of copywriting training, talented writers, blog posts and it also advertises the Copywriting Conference. Leif wanted the newsletter to relaunch in a weekly format following a period with sporadic editions reaching the audience.

I was also asked to write promotional emails for the Copywriting Conference, showcasing the training sessions, the speakers and the conference itself.

The solution

Each week, I researched the latest blog posts and compiled updates and news of activities going on in the community, including training sessions, and member spotlights that showcase copywriters doing their work. I maintained and followed the tone of voice to sound the copy chatty, friendly, and well-informed.

I drafted the newsletter and built the template using Constant Contact, a mailer system, including embedded links, sourced images and clickable content.

For the conference emails, I built a timeline of when the emails needed to be sent, and made the templates, drafted the content and made sure the wording was interesting, engaging, and enticing. These emails were read by nearly 20,000 people and helped to boost sales for the exclusive online conference.

The ProCopywriters Survey 2020 is ready!
We asked, and you answered.
To be precise, way back in January, a record-breaking 640 copywriters responded to our annual survey.
It's a fascinating glimpse into copywriting life in the pre-lockdown days, and we've packed in more detail than ever before.

The survey answers questions like:

  • How much do copywriters earn in 2020?

  • What's the average day rate?

  • Where are copywriters based in the UK?

  • What's a copywriters preferred kit?

For all these answers and more, check out the full survey results. It's a big read, so if you prefer bite-sized pieces, keep an eye out for a series of blog posts taking a deep dive into the survey's finer details over the next few weeks.

“Ruth is a fantastic copywriter and a real asset to our team. She helped us with both content writing and assembling the newsletters for ProCopywriters - which are sent to our 950-ish members, as well as many emails for our Copywriting Conference, which are sent to around 20,000 inboxes. Ruth is super-reliable, consistent and easy to work with. Ruth was also very patient when dealing with my rambling briefs - and I appreciated her clear-thinking and creativity that she brought to our projects.”
